Swiss Mountain Beer

Jérôme Rebetez, who holds a degree in oenology, founded in 1997 the Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes (BFM), located in Saignelégier (Swiss Jura). Perhaps he thought the world of beer remained virgin territory yet to be explored… In any case it’s true that he acts like a pioneer. After an amazing stout, here is the second beer from his brewery, reputed to refuse being confined to standards — and it represents only 0.02% of the Swiss market…

It’s this really independent approach that I want to point out here. It’s also an original approach, no doubt influenced by its oenological inheritance, resulting in this sage-flavoured beer with its very good lingering finish. We suspect some Belgian yeast in this vigorous, spicy, 6% ABV beer. Unless it maybe harks back to those first “mountain beers,” brewed with wild cereals… as the grape gave the wine.
