Anglo-American Deep Ruby Red
“Aromas and flavours of subtle toffee malt, complemented by a mix of dried fruit, candied peel, dried apricots and fragrant hops.” The means for achieving this enticing invitation: Phoenix, Pilgrim, Centennial and Bramling Cross hops; Crystal Rye, Crystal and Munich Pale malts. For the hops section, this English beer is radically English, although it aims to be and is an American red style – as its name suggest, and also the nose, because it smells quite American-hoppy…
With this 5.9%-ABV red ale, the Thornbridge Brewery (Bakewell, Derbyshire) – previously visited – has achieved a wonderful balance between bitterness and sweetness. And yet, again we find a watery side that English beers don’t seem ready to part with… But, jokes aside, this is a nice and successful example of what English hops can do.
