Smart and Classy (Part 2)
So, here is our second beer from the Riegele Biermanufaktur (Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany), just as properly educated as the first one (Simco 3). And even cultivated, since its name, Amaris, is of Latin origin: amarus means bitter — amaris is the ablative case, and could be translated by: From the bitterness…
The figure 50 refers to the level of bitterness.
Its four hops from the Hallertau region (Perle, Opal, Hersbrucker, and Tettnang) deliver personality to this 5%-ABV pilsener; in order: earthy-spicy, bitter-spicy, fruity-floral, very spicy. In fact, all this is handled in a very respectable way — in a very classical way, one might say. Which is not a defect, but a character trait. More than with its colleague Simco 3, everything is here carefully restrained.
This Amaris 50 is a good and refreshing beer: lightly flavoured, slightly crisp, slightly bitter (and at first slightly medical), finishing in a nice slightly dry sensation… Spiced, yes, but in fact gently spiced…
