LA 31 at Tujague’s
The front bar of storied Tujague’s – at 150 years, the second-oldest bar in the French Quarter – has recently begun to feature local brews on tap. LA-31 Bière Pâle is a biscuity Belgian-style, dubbed by its creator, Cajun brewer Karlos Knott, as a Louisiana Pale Ale.
Despite its country roots at Bayou Teche Brewing, a draft of LA 31 fits right in with the white-shirted elegance of Tujague’s front bar. Knott claims to have brewed in the bitterness on purpose, to complement the local cuisine, which is–you’re talking gumbo or jambalaya or boiled crawfish–heavy on the Cayenne. You get a whiff of petrichor, too, like you might on Louisiana Highway 31 itself, after a light morning rain.
