A Whiff of Banana…
Before the Abita Brewery moved down the road to its new 125,000-barrel facility a few years back, Abita Beers were brewed in two kettles in the little house that is now the Abita Brew Pub, still the only place you can find all their beers on tap at any time. It’s down a two-lane road, a bit of a hike from almost anywhere, back in the woods.
I opted for the Roggen Weizen this trip. Billed as “true German style,” it’s as hoppy as a hayfield, with a soft finish and a whiff of banana. Fits right in with the rustic wooden ambiance of the place.
