When Malt Becomes Matter
Formerly known as Bohemia, the Czech Republic has a long brewing tradition which goes back to the 12th century. Furthermore, this country has the world’s highest beer consumption per capita, ahead of Germany and Austria. Located in Třeboň (South Bohemia), the Regent Brewery was established in 1379 and is considered one of Central Europe’s older breweries. So we’re not dealing with novices here…
This Bohemia Regent Premium Dark is a German Lager, called a “Dunkel” in this area. This variety, very popular throughout Bavaria and the Czech Republic, is characterized by a smooth malty flavour and a reddish-brown dark colour. This 4.4% ABV beer provides a slightly powdery mouth-feel, with a surprising and pleasant malty “earthiness”. Worth a try, if only for that chalky historical presence on the palate.
