Autumnal Nose
The German influence in Southern Louisiana is often overlooked among the somehow more exotic English, French, Spanish, and Choctaws, but if you visit the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain around Halloween you might start to feel, to your surprise, that you stumbled into Munich, with tents full of long tables full of stein-wielding locals.
Many of those steins will contain brews made by local brewmaster Henryk Orlik, an expatriate of Nuremberg who studied at the Doemens School. His Octoberfest Festbier is a hoppy and potent rendition of Central European happiness, with a heavy autumnal nose and a finish lively as the polka duo up front, who dug their lederhosen out of the closet for the occasion.
